Early Life and Influences

Vincenzo Donato Bertucci, also known as Jimi Bertucci, was born in Serra San Bruno, Calabria, Italy. He is renowned as the founding member and principal singer-songwriter for the '70s hit-making band Abraham's Children. At the age of six, Jimi immigrated to Toronto, Canada, where he was raised in the vibrant "Little Italy" neighborhood.
Jimi grew up in a large household filled with relatives, including his Uncle Sam, who played various instruments, such as the accordion and mandolin. Uncle Sam's musical talents profoundly influenced the young Vincenzo, planting the seeds for his future musical career.

Inspiring Encounters and Formative Experiences

At the tender age of 13, Jimi had a transformative experience that solidified his desire to pursue a career in music. As the lucky recipient of tickets from "Sam the Record Man," he attended a live performance by the iconic Beatles at Maple Leaf Gardens in Toronto. This monumental event sparked Jimi's imagination and set him on the path to becoming a musician. His destiny was further sealed when his parents gifted him a Hofner Beatle bass.

Formation of Abraham's Children

Jimi's musical journey began in earnest when he met local musicians Ron Bartley and Glenn Olive. Together, they formed their first band, "The London Tones." With the addition of Bob McPherson and Brian Cotterill, and after several name changes, the group eventually became known as Abraham's Children.
As the principal songwriter for the band, Jimi penned their first national hit, "Goodbye Farewell," under Gas Records. This success was followed by other hits, including "Gypsy," "Thank You," and "Goddess of Nature," which helped the band gain a dedicated following. They toured extensively, performing to large, enthusiastic crowds.

Solo Career and Musical Evolution

In 1976, Jimi decided to explore new musical directions, leading to his departure from Abraham's Children. United Artists Records quickly signed him, recognizing his talent. With the creative freedom he desired, Jimi produced a pop-influenced band called "Space Patrol" and later an R&B band called "Angel." During the 1980s, while signed with A&M Records, he formed a band called "The Police," which garnered an enthusiastic following. However, due to disputes with the label, the band eventually disbanded.
Jimi continued to pursue his passion for music with his newly formed band, Jimi B. Alongside Robert Hoelting, Mike Cherney, Kelvin Womack, and Bongo Fury, he performed at popular Hollywood venues such as The Roxy, The Whisky A Go Go, Club 369, The Viper Room, The Galaxy Theatre, and Rumps. His prolific songwriting and solo work resulted in several releases, including albums like Jimi B, Through The Eyes of Vincenzo, Best of Jimi B, Postcards & Musica, and numerous singles.

Return to Abraham's Children and Later Works

In 2004, after many requests from fans, Jimi reformed Abraham's Children and toured Canada. Despite being the only original member, the band played all their classic hits, satisfying long-time fans. In 2005, they continued touring to promote Jimi's latest project, a double CD set titled Abraham's Children 30, which captured three decades of pop music.
Jimi's creative endeavors extended beyond music. In 2009, he released a collection of poetry that received critical acclaim in the literary world. He has also been involved as a writer and producer, collaborating with his daughter Juli. Jimi remains committed to his art, continually exploring music, writing poetry, cooking, and enjoying life.

Italian Walk of Fame

Jimi Bertucci is also the co-founder of the Italian Walk of Fame in Toronto, Canada. Reflecting on his early years, Jimi recalls the vibrant and diverse environment of Grace Street, where he grew up surrounded by musicians, athletes, politicians, actors, and novelists. This eclectic community of determined ethnic opportunists inspired him and contributed to his street smarts and passion for exploring new possibilities.
